Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy
The approach at Sarasota Sports Medicine is to address not only the pain you are experiencing, but to correct and stabilize the underlying imbalances present in an injury. For sports injuries, we often utilize the Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy to improve blood supply and bring fresh, new oxygenated blood to the damaged tissues. This accelerates healing and often shortens the recovery period following injury. The Laser Therapy also helps to control inflammation and decreases pain. This therapy is non-invasive and is completely painless. Treatments are only a few minutes in length. Depending on the injury, pain relief can be felt in as little as one visit. However, six to ten treatments are often recommended.
Soft Tissue Treatment
For addressing the underlying soft tissue imbalances present in nearly every sports injury we apply Kinesio tape to the affected joints to encourage normal posture and movement. Most of the time, patients will have muscle imbalances and compensation patterns that alter movement and often creating more damage. When applied correctly, Kinesio tape will correct for that weakened position and encourage a more normal posture. The tape will typically stay on for three to five days depending on your physical activity. You can bathe and get the tape wet. You will simply pat the tape with a towel and let air dry. Several applications of the tape may be necessary until your shoulder strength can be restored.
Corrective Exercise Rehabilitation
Finally, corrective exercises are necessary to strengthen and stabilize the injury and to correct the altered movement patterns that often persist. These exercises target the associated muscles responsible for providing proper stabilization and movement. Current research suggests that for the best outcome, a corrective exercise program should be performed three times per week for eight weeks. These exercises can be performed one-on-one with Dr. Kaufman and you will receive instructions for use at home.
